Flocon's Progress

I am glad to report that Flocon has made great progress since I got him in March 2010.

He is so sweet, he is still very nervous but at least he does not try to fly away like he used to.

I noticed that recently his tail feather's are growing and he has not broken them yet. He is starting to look so much better and so much whiter. Its amazing how he looks like a giant snow flake sometimes, especially after he cleaned himself pretty good after bath time.

I will post pictures once he lets me, that bird has a fatuation with my camera and constantly tries to get to it.

If I leave it close to him, he will snuggle up to it. I think he found a lust object with my camera which is quite funny.

As promised, here are a few pictures that I manage to get :

Silk's Accident

Today Silk decided to play a game of who can hit harder with a toy, somehow he managed to wedge his wing in the toy and hurt himself seriously. Within 10 mins, it was an emergency to the vet's office.

The good news is that he will heal and so will his wing but it will take some time, he is not allowed to fly now for at least 2 weeks so the wound don't open up.

what a scary experience. and of course toy is now in the garbage, I think I will stick to birdKabobs.

Here are pictures taken after the vet visit. I am just glad that he is back to playing with his toy's. But he will be watched so that he does not poke around his wound.

Night Fright

Last night Silk and Flocon had a night fright, I am not sure what caused it as the cage was covered and there was a night light , which I placed so that there would not be any shadows.

I am starting to think that perhaps Silk sleeps so soundly that he scares himself by leaning slowwwly on a toy.

After calming both Silk and Flocon down, I checked them both and silk was bleeding a little bit where his new blood feather grows, within a minute the bleeding stopped but I won't take a chance and take him to the vet tonight, it looks like the feather has a small puncture but I don't want to remove the whole blood feather without consulting with my vet.

I checked him again this morning and he cleaned himself pretty good with no bleeding, he was playing with his favorite toy and signing happily to me so that is good.

This is the 2nd night fright he had since I got him in March, if he has a few more episodes of that I may have to let him sleep in a smaller cage

bird update

Last week was quite a hectic week with my brother giving birth to his first child. He is so cute.

Unfortunately between hospital visits, and personal doctor appointments, my poor babies did not get as much time out as usual.

This week all is back to normal and boy are they happy.

Sunshine has been signing so much lately and learning new things to sing. I love that Dusty is now tryign to catch up to him. I should take a video one day, It looks like a showdown of who sings better between Dusty and Sunshine.

Flocon has now completely stopped running around in his cage while trying to get him out, he now hurries over to the door to jump on my finger to come out and play. Silk has been getting quite moody though, he only wants his daily scritches and other then that leave him alone. Ok he does have a heart , if one of the birds flies off he will alert me but other then that he stay's quiet playing with his toys alone.

As for scooter, well lets just say he has been "my little green monster" this week. He continuously flies to scare the cockatiels and then goes and langs on mommies shoulder to goat.... at least he does not bite any of them which is good.

Day off

Today I had the day off so I cleaned the bird cages and had fun playing with them all :)

Here sunshine is telling me " Quit pointing that thing at me will you?"

And this is Silks favorite spot, its also where he sits and screams at me if one of the flock flies to the floor.

I find this picture of Flocon cute, he is just basically looking at the camera as if saying "Here I am" "Ain't I a pretty bird.

And Dusty finally took a break from flying around. He loves to fly and do accrobatics in the air, including flying towards you and stopping dead in front of your face then taking off again. Its amazing how they can stop in mid air.

This is a blurry picture but I had to put it in there. Scooter decided to fly where the flock was, thats him, the small blurr of blue and green. Of course by doing that he caused all 4 of the cockatiel to fly around.

They are so much fun.

Sunshine's Talent

While I was relaxing watching tv, sunshine decided that it was snuggle time. He got a good 5 minutes of head scratches, kisses, snuggles.

He then proceeded to show me how happy he was by singning and saying "Pretty bird" to his foot... Yep he litterally lifts up one of his foot, curls it like it was a microphone near his beak and sings to it.

It is the cutest picture ever to see. Now if only I can take a picture while he is doing it...

Bath time

I gave all the birds a bath tonight, All of them did not like it at first but after they were done, boy did they love to fly and preen.

Sunshine would perch in the sun, then all of a sudden fly to me right in front of my face as if he was saying "Peek a boo". I should really play that game with him, I think he would pick up quick.

Heck if I call him he finds me where ever I am. He is such a sweety :D

Silk on the other hand really wanted some scritches lol. That is him on the right posing for me, he is such a cuddly bird. Its a good think his tint is more yellow then Sunshine's they'd be hard to tell apart.

Arriving home to be greeted by theses awesome birds is the best.

Flocon's Storie

Silk, the yellowone, was picked up after Misty died because Dusty was having a hard time coping with the loss of his companion.

While I was at the breeders, I was certain that I wanted to bring Silk home, but I saw a lonely albino cockatiel that had no tail feather and looked pitifull.

When inquiring about him, the breeder told me that the other birds would constantly attack him and that because of his feather condition (tail) he could not sell him.

I was at a loss because my boyfriend really like silk and I also wanted to take flocon home with me.
I guess the breeder really wanted to get rid of him so he gave me a real special price for him.

I've been working on him for the past 6months now, at first he was so skiddish but now he steps up and loves to snuggle. He still has his moments but he is doing better.

His tail feathers have not grown yet but it looks like they are slowing trying to grow. In this picture you can see why I call him King Flocon, his crest looks like a huge crown :)
Needless to say I love him as well and will convert him to like human company, so far he only lets me handle him but that will change one day with perseverance.

A strange Night fright

Well sometime around 3:00am this morning Dusty started flapping his wings madly in his cage.

Of course mommy went to the rescue and no damage, just a startled bird waiting for mommy to console him.

I've tried to find what would cause the night fright but its only this morning when I woke up that I finally saw what happened.

Turns out that Dusty took a liking to perching on their cuddle bone. and somehow the cuddle bone fell , so tomorow off to the pet shop to purchase some flat perches. I think Dusty would love them to sleep on :)
I am just happy that he only needed some cuddle time and that he did not break any feathers.

My loverly birds playing

This is a picture of all my birds together playing. Scooter prefered to stay in his cage playing with his pinata. lol

And this is a cute picture of Sunshine :) He just loves to stay on his mommy

Of course Sunshine loves getting his scratches.

And here is one of scooter enjoying the warmth of my hand and wanting to snuggle before bed time.

And This one is sunshine looking at the camera with annoyance because he wanted me to continue scratching him.

Sunshine the Talker

I just love the way sunshine makes my mornings. When I uncover the cage in the morning, he instantly goes to the door and tweets at me "Pretty Bird" and "hello pretty bird" then proceeds to sing various songs he learned.

He is such a handsome boy. always sticking close to his mommy.

I always allow all my birds Play time in the evening for a good 3 hours minimum and my little prince just loves to sit on my shoulder and sing to me, give me kisses.

He even tries to flirt with the other birds when they visit me for some snuggle time. Even if they are all Males. I don't think he realises that they are male or he is just trying to show off.

Here are some pictures of my handsome Prince.

Rememberance - Misty

Misty came into our lives from a baby. At firt I was sure he was a female but turns out he was a male.

I already had Dusty for 6 months when I brought Misty home. He was pulled from his parents early as they were not taking care of him properly and was hand fed, however I knew right off the bat he was a special bird. He was always a curious bird and so affectionate. He lived to be 6 years old before he tragically passed away.

Where I live there is no actual vet for birds but they can do the basic and when I brough misty at a young age, they did some tests which were normal. There was no reason to believe it was something really bad and that it would eventually place itself. He had moments where he seemed more lethargic but he always got out of it with proper care. This bird actually started flying backwards instead of forward so I spent a lot of time teaching him to jump from finger to finger.

Dusty adored him and always watched out for him. They lived together for 6 years in the same cage.
In march of this year, Misty took a turn for the worse. I noticed right away that there was something when he started to vomit. Off to the vet it was the same day. They performed tests and all looked normal but gave me some meds to help with the vomiit and told me to keep him warm.

I had to bring him again the next day as he got even worse and refused to eat. furthermore if he did eat millet, he would poo them undigested. I knew something serious was happening. The vet game me more meds and some hand feeding formula. He seemed to get better but 2 days after that I noticed that he could no longer perch properly so off to the vet again.

This time I told them to perform X-ray's since all other tests seemed normal. When they got it back , his gastric sac was enlarged. Unfortunately before anything could be performed Misty passed at the vet's office that same day while the technicians were performing more tests.

I miss him terrribly. I spent a whole week medicating him and hand feeding him every 4 hours , even at night for a bit so that he had something in his stomach.

He was my special man, and would spend hours cuddling. In his last day's all he wanted to do is snuggle inside my collar and run his head on my neck. Its like he wanted to confort me and tell me that all would be okay. Writting this makes me all teary eyed.

Here are some pics of Misty from the moment he was a Baby to about 2 months before he passed.
